Fattoria Dianella: tradition and innovation
The tradition of the Chianti Dianella is lost in the mists of time...
The Fattoria Dianella Fucini is located in a panoramic position on the sweet rolling hills of Vinci, native town of Leonardo. Vinci is part of the Montalbano area, located west of Florence, one of the Chianti DOCG districts since 1932, already mentioned in an Announcement of the Grand Duke of Tuscany in 1796 as an area highly vocated for the production of smooth wines with deep flavours.
The Fattoria di Dianella is made of 90 hectares, 20 of which are vineyards located on hilly, calcareous grounds of middle medley at an altitude of about 150 mt. on the sea level with a south, south-west exposure. The most present variety of grapes is the Sangiovese together with Canaiolo, Colorino, Malvasia from Chianti, Merlot, Cabernet, Sauvignon and a small quantity of Trebbiano. The vineyards, mostly recently renewed, have a density that goes from 3600 to 5500 plants per hectare and a spur cordon training system.
The olive-groves have an extension of about 15 hectares made by different varieties like Frantoio, Leccino, Pendolino and Moraiolo , which make the extraordinary Dianella olive oil rich of intensity and personality.
The Dianella wines tradition dates back to the end of 1700, as stated in the works of the poet Renato Fucini. Since 1900 the Chianti Dianella is known all over Italy. In the 50’s and 60’s the flask of the Chianti Dianella could not miss on the tables of the most famous taverns and restaurants of Italy, while the bottle was often offered by the Italian President in the menu of the official lunches at the "Quirinale".
Francesco and Veronica Passerin d'Entrèves take care of the whole stages of the production from the vineyards to the cellar, offering a selection of products made in respect of the tradition and of the philosophy that the wine must be expression of its “terroir”. Besides the Chianti, the Fattoria offers “Le Veglie di Neri”, “ Il Matto delle Giuncaie”, “Sereno e Nuvole” and “Dolci ricordi” , names inspired to the Novels of the writer Renato Fucini.
The farm is open to the public for the product’s sale and on request for wine tastings.
