On May 2, 2019, to mark the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci’s death, Dianella paid tribute to the great figure born in Vinci, his homeland, by serving Malvasia di Candia wine taken from Leonardo’s own vineyard at the Atellani House in Milan. Guests can visit the vineyard and enjoy a themed menu or even take part in a cooking class inspired by Leonardo—tasting or preparing period dishes while learning anecdotes about his life, as well as insights into how some of his inventions and machines were early precursors of modern kitchen tools, especially designed for the court of Ludovico il Moro. The star of the Acquarosa program is L’Orpicchio, a wine made following the original recipe from the Codex Atlanticus. Dedicated to Leonardo, its secrets are unveiled by the chefs during the cooking class and it is also served as part of the special “Leonardian menu.”
