June 2025: between the aftermath of spring and the impact of sudden heat

By 11 June 2025June 22nd, 2025No Comments

After an unusually cold and rainy spring, the month of June arrived with a sudden temperature surge. The temperatures exceeded 30 degrees already in the first week, forcing us to quickly adjust the work in the vineyard.

The spring chill slowed down the initial phases of vegetative growth, delaying the flowering by about 10 days compared to the average of recent years. However, this delay also had a positive effect: it allowed for slower and more orderly shoot growth, with well-formed and compact bunches.

Now, however, with the heat becoming immediately intense, it’s the moment for maximum care. Canopy management has become a priority: we defoliate moderately to avoid water stress and work on the vegetative walls to maintain the balance between light and shade. In the vineyard, the scent of summer is already in the air, but the residual soil moisture makes the microclimate delicate: it’s crucial to prevent the onset of fungal diseases.

Our organic farming requires a respectful yet responsive approach. We don’t use systemic products, which means monitoring each plot constantly and intervening only when necessary, in the most natural way possible.

If the climate stabilizes in the coming weeks, the prospects for the 2025 vintage remain very good. But, as always, it will be July — and especially August — that will tell us whether this will be a vintage to remember.
